we started by/rosie jane because we wanted something better. something safer. something beautiful. from the beginning, “clean” has meant creating products we feel good about using and sharing with the people we love. it’s not a label we chase, it’s just how we do things. we care deeply about what goes into our products and what our products go into. people and the planet matter to us, and that shows up in every formula, every bottle, every decision.
IT ALL STARTED WITH A LOT OF QUESTIONS
back in 2008, rosie set out to make a fragrance she actually felt good wearing. when she started digging into ingredients and asking questions, she realized how much wasn't being shared. so she made her own. we didn’t set out to start a movement, we just wanted something safe, beautiful, and honest. and we figured others might want that too.
HERE’s THE DEAL
WITH “FRAGRANCE”
fragrance is often used as a catch-all term for thousands of underregulated ingredients (yikes). “proprietary blend” might sound mysterious, but you deserve to know what you’re putting on your skin. that’s why you’ll never see the word “fragrance” in our ingredient list. ever.
we use safe synthetics when they make sense.
not all synthetics are bad. some are actually better for you and the planet. while “synthetic” can sometimes sound scary, not all synthetics are bad. many are safer for sensitive skin and more sustainable since they don’t rely on overharvested natural resources. when we use them, it’s because they’re:
- non-toxic
- safe for sensitive skin
- more sustainable (no overharvested natural resources)
- more consistent and stable in formula
